If you've ever felt like your body was a "black box" with mysterious workings you don't understand and would like to, you're in the right place.

When I began charting my menstrual cycle nearly a decade ago I couldn't begin to imagine the wonders I would uncover. All of a sudden, all the things I had feared about my body began to make sense. Things such as:

  • the meaning of that crusty stuff in your underwear
  • the importance of that fluid that looks like egg-white coming out of your vagina
  • the physiological reasons why we alternate between feeling energetic, social, introverted, tired and downright hibernatory each month

But that was only the beginning. After I got through the basics I began to uncover deeper issues about my health, such as:

  • the real cause of menstrual pain
  • the impact of stress on ovulation
  • the dietary causes of heavy bleeding
  • signs of adrenal fatigue and hypothyroidism

And then came something deeper and unexpected. I began to connect my menstrual cycle issues with our collective devaluing of femininity. I began to see how our cultural prerogative to drive hard and fast was out of balance.

"As within, so without."

I began to see that to heal our collective imbalance as a culture we needed to come into right relationship - right balance with the masculine and feminine energies within ourselves. Through connecting with my menstrual cycle I began to see how out of balance I was internally. I began to make adjustments.

The Cycle Sense program is a video tutorial and introduction to using the Justisse Method of Fertility Management to build body literacy. Body literacy refers to the ability of any menstruating folk, including cisgendered women and trans men, to accurately identify their signs of fertility and menstrual health using the core skills of fertility awareness - mucus checks, temperature checks and/or cervical checks.

While there are clear benefits of applying the Justisse Method for those looking for natural birth control or for those seeking to achieve pregnancy, there are many other reasons to master the art of body literacy. As a fifth vital sign, knowledge of our menstrual health empowers us to respect the needs of our body by learning to speak its language and honour its messages. Whether it is stress, illness, sleep disturbances, or food allergies - the menstrual cycle will reflect back to us our own state of health or dis-ease. Through learning to read these signs we can work to optimize our health and quality of life.

This three hour video workshop will introduce you to the fundamentals of the Justisse Method practice. It will also teach you what to look for in terms of monitoring your own health, and it will cover some of the most common causes of disturbed menstrual cycles for those who experience irregular, painful or heavy periods.

"What software will I need in order to view the workshop?"

The workshop is hosted on Vimeo. All you will need is access to an internet connection.

"Do I need any supplies?"

This program is designed to be instructional and beneficial regardless of whether you have Justisse charting materials. However, after attending the workshop you may want to begin putting your new knowledge to work by charting your cycles using the Justisse Method. If this is the case, you have several ways to procure the appropriate materials:

The companion manual for the workshop is the Justisse Users Guide. You can purchase this from Amazon or through a subscription to the Justisse App (which provides in-app access to the manual).

If you decide you would like to begin charting using the Justisse Method you may order hard copy charts through us, or you can use the web-based Justisse app. There are no phone apps currently available for the Justisse Method, however the app is mobile-optimized so you can open it on your phone. If you already use another fertility awareness app, you can continue to do so. This workshop will serve to enhance your ability to get the most out of your current menstrual app's capabilities.

"Sounds good. What's the cost?"

The cost for the video tutorial is $147 Canadian. If you would like, you can upgrade your registration to receive a 45-minute follow-up consultation with Amy to review your menstrual charts (after a minimum of one cycle of charting) for an additional $100.
