If you've ever felt like your body was a "black box" with mysterious workings you don't understand and would like to, you're in the right place.

When I began charting my menstrual cycle nearly a decade ago I couldn't begin to imagine the wonders I would uncover. All of a sudden, all the things I had feared about my body began to make sense. Things such as:

  • the meaning of that crusty stuff in your underwear
  • the importance of that fluid that looks like egg-white coming out of your vagina
  • the physiological reasons why we alternate between feeling energetic, social, introverted, tired and downright hibernatory each month

But that was only the beginning. After I got through the basics I began to uncover deeper issues about my health, such as:

  • the real cause of menstrual pain
  • the impact of stress on ovulation
  • the dietary causes of heavy bleeding
  • signs of adrenal fatigue and hypothyroidism

And then came something deeper and unexpected. I began to connect my menstrual cycle issues with our collective devaluing of femininity. Femininity not in the gendered sense, but in the ancient taoist sense of yin and yang, the opposing and complementary forces of the universe. I began to see how our cultural prerogative to drive hard and fast was out of balance.

"As within, so without."

To heal our collective imbalance as a culture we needed to come into right relationship and right balance with the yin and yang energies within ourselves.

The Cycle Sense program is a video tutorial and introduction to using the Justisse Method of Fertility Management to build body literacy. Body literacy refers to the ability of any menstruating folk to accurately identify their signs of fertility and menstrual health using the core skills of fertility awareness - mucus checks, temperature checks and/or cervical checks.

While there are clear benefits of applying the Justisse Method for those looking for natural birth control or for those seeking to achieve pregnancy, there are many other reasons to master the art of body literacy. As Paula Hillard, M.D., Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine stated,

“The menstrual cycle is a window into the general health and well-being of women, and not just a reproductive event. It can indicate the status of bone health, heart disease, and ovarian failure, as well as long-term fertility. Therefore, if a woman is not having her period, it is the first sign that something else could be going on.”

As such, many people have come to refer to menstruation at the "fifth vital sign" (alongside the four other vital signs of body temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiratory rate) of a menstruator's overall health. As a fifth vital sign, knowledge of our menstrual health empowers us to respect the needs of our body by learning to speak its language and honour its messages. Whether it is stress, illness, sleep disturbances, or food sensitivities - the menstrual cycle will reflect back to us our own state of health or dis-ease. Through learning to read these signs we can work to optimize our health and quality of life.

This three hour video workshop will introduce you to the fundamentals of the Justisse Method. It will also teach you what to look for in terms of monitoring your own health, and it will cover some of the most common causes of disturbed menstrual cycles for those who experience irregular, painful or heavy periods.

"How can I view the workshop videos?"

The workshop is pre-recorded and the video files are hosted on a platform called Vimeo. All you will need is access to an internet connection, and a password which will be provided to you in your email confirmation.

"Sounds good. What's the cost?"
