Resources

We’re both lifelong learners. One of our favourite things to do is share what we’re learning with others! Below you’ll find a sampling of the teachers who have shaped our work. This page is a living document, so we encourage you to come back and visit as we make additions. Do you have a resource related to boundaries, relationships, or emotions? We’d love to hear it!

Boundaries

Lately, we’ve been realizing our boundaries could use some work. Maybe you can relate? To communicate effectively, you need to first get clear on your limits and expectations. The three teachers below have been instrumental in helping us establish healthy boundaries.

Set Boundaries, Find Peace
by Nedra Glover Tawwab

The list of “signs you need boundaries” on page one had us hooked. Overwhelmed? Check. Burned out? Been there.

“Boundaries are the distance at which I can love you and me simultaneously.”Hemphill’s definition of boundaries is the best we’ve heard. Period.

Untamed
by Glennon Doyle

If you struggle with anxiety, body image, or people-pleasing, this book is for you. It’s one of Kim’s all-time favourite memoirs.

Relationships

It can be easy to feel like you’re the only one having relationship challenges or to assume that if things are hard, it’s time to end it. Being exposed to different relationship models and witnessing the experience of others can help shine a light on what you want (as opposed to what you’ve been told you should want).

The Soft Shoulder
Podcast with Danette Relic

Kim attended Danette’s self-marriage workshop and it was a game-changer. Also, Danette’s laugh is the BEST. That alone is a reason to listen.

The 5 Love Languages
By Gary Chapman

We don’t like the heternormative lens, but we find the framework of different love languages to be very effective in our own lives and with clients.

Where Should We Begin?
Podcast with Esther Perel

We love everything Esther creates, but if you’re new to her work we suggest starting here. It’s a fascinating look into how couples therapy works.

Emotions

We grew up with a stepfather who’s a psychologist, so we’re used to talking about feelings all the time. That said, it’s amazing how much we still have to learn! We’re particularly fascinated by how to manage anxiety and depression (two things Kim has struggled with), as well as the gifts of “negative” emotions.

Unlocking Us
Podcast with Brené Brown

We are huge Brené Brown fans so it’s hard to pick our fave format, but the beauty of her podcast is that you get to hear her take on a variety of topics.

The Language of Emotions
by Karla McLaren

This book had such a profound impact on Amy that she decided to enroll in Karla’s Dynamic Emotional Intelligence training program.
