Beyond Fertility

Menopause, or the permanent cessation of menstruation, marks the end of a woman's reproductive ability. It is preceeded by the climacteric, a transitional time for women that is associated with significant physiological and psychic changes. Although this period of life presents challenges, it can also mark the beginning of new opportunities in a woman's personal and professional life. At Red Tent Sisters we aim to support women in their transition out of and beyond reproductive fertility through a variety of group and one-on-one programming.
Mindfulness for Menopause
Group Workshop
Dates: Wednesdays 7-9pm
September 10, 2008 - October 29, 2008
Menopause is a time of both physical and emotional change. Some women find these changes easy to manage, and some find these changes difficult and stressful. Mindfulness is an approach to dealing with stress that is grounded in the belief that the best way to enhance well-being is to learn to relate to stress in a different way. Mindfulness involves purposely cultivating an open and non-judgemental attitude which leads to a greater tolerance of the stress encountered in daily life.

Estrogen plays an important role in maintaining bone density. Reduced estrogen levels associated with menopause mean that women need to pay particular attention to maintaining or improving the health of their bones. This can be accomplished through various low-impact activities, including Tai Chi, which has a variety of other proven health benefits. Join us for a 45 minute introduction to basic Tai chi exercises, followed by tea and conversation.
