American Experience: The Pill
A PBS Film
This month's film pick describes the events leading up to and closely following the FDA's approval of "the pill" in May 1960. Touching on some of the issues that drove the development of the first hormonal contraceptive, including strong activism by some of America's leading feminists and birth control activists, this film provides a historical context from which to examine the broad social and health implications of one of the world's most influential pharmaceuticals.
