Pre & Post-Natal

Pregnancy can be a time of great excitement, but also of great personal growth as we learn about our changing body, our growing fetus, the birth process and how we will care for our new child. Unfortunately it can also be a time of fear and/or sadness for those who have suffered a miscarriage. At Red Tent Sisters we aim to support every woman in her pregnancy journey through a variety of group and individual programming.
Mindfulness for Mommies (and mommies to-be)
8-week Group Workshop
Sundays 10-12am beginning January 13, 2008
Four hour retreat on last day of session TBD
For most women, pregnancy and new motherhood are a time of joy and anticipation. However, many women also experience stress and/or depression as a result of the associated physical and emotional changes that accompany new motherhood. Anya Choulsky, registered Occupational Therapist, and trained Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy instructor, will conduct an eight-week educational program designed for new mommies and mommies to-be. The program will help participants to develop the skills to gain control over stress, and to find greater balance and peace-of-mind.
Suggested Readings: Full Catastrophe Living, by Jon Kabat-Zinn, and The Mindful Way Through Depression, by Williams, Teasdale, Segal and Kabat-Zinn.
Cost: $259

Mother Blessing
By Appointment Sundays 3-6pm
Rituals, and the sharing of wisdom between women, can be powerful tools to help an expectant mother prepare for the psychological challenges of childbirth. Based on the traditional Navajo ceremony known as a Blessing Way, this ceremonial coming together of women is an opportunity to acknowledge the commitment and energy it requires to become a mother and draw on the support of other women, mothers, and daughters to provide inspiration to the expectant mother. This service is available by appointment for a block time of three hours. We encourage women to invite a small but intimate group of women (maximum 20). Please inquire within for more details.
Cost: $225
